Back in the late 2000’s, before you could easily pluck a formula from the clouds, XpressTint was much different. We delivered CD-ROMs full of formulas to your doorstep every 6-9 months, after vigorous testing on Windows 98, Windows Millennium and even Windows 95 – the most popular platforms in our industry at the time.
Some of you may even be familiar with this screen…
Every time we wanted to add a formula or correct a formula, we would have to recall the CD-ROMs, delete the formula that we wanted removed, add the new formulas, search for updated formulas from the original maker, issue a new copies to everyone – it was an exhausting process that meant we couldn’t ever focus all of our attention on what mattered the most. The raw formulas.
XpressTint was really made to live in the clouds. Formulas need to be current.
Colours are created so quickly and are refined sometimes more than once a year, that it is impossible to deliver them any other way to the end user. What is #trending now will only be trending for so long. You need access to them as soon as they are available.
Similarly, there will always be colours that transcend the moment. These colours are timeless. As important as it is to upload new colours to XpressTint as soon as possible, we regularly maintain and sample the timeless ones. Popular colours like Antique White USA are checked routinely, to count for any inconsistencies like colour temperature, wavelength abnormalities, even environmental distortions that alter the way we view colours. If we need to make any changes to a formula for any reason, then XpressTint will know as soon as we do, and notify you.
The process of how we now make formulas has been refined so much over the years and is needless to say much more sophisticated now. We stand by every formula that we upload to XpressTint, and if there is ever something wrong about one you pull up, then we will spend considerable laboratory time on it to ascertain exactly why it could be faulty.
We love looking back at these old images of CD-ROM’s and relic computers that can now be replaced by a device that fits in your pocket, because it not only reminds us of where we’ve been and how XpressTint has evolved over the years, but we are excited to see where it is going.
XpressTint is now much more than just formulation software you use on your computer or device. It is a community of users who contribute to it daily and help it grow.
