The Highlander™ zinc phosphate primer and spraying enamel both represent the latest in technology and reflect market requirements for quality and economy.

Highlander™ Steel Protector is an exceptional steel primer designed for use in conjunction with either Highlander™ 210, 310 or 600 enamel topcoat. It is the ideal primer for not only structural steel in factories, commercial buildings schools, but also machinery and equipment under a Highlander™ series enamel, Ceramevic™ exterier polyurethane or Evapoxy™ epoxy topcoat. Highlander™ Steel Protector may also be used as a finish for structural steel that does not require long-term exterior protection.

Highlander 240 is a true high build anti-corrosive zinc phosphate primer ideal for use on structural steel, earthmoving, fleet and agricultural equipment, and steel fabrication. During product development, it was intentionally benchmarked against three leading zinc phosphate primers to provide outstanding results in a number of key. The results speak for themselves. Excellent anti-corrosive properties combined with high build (75 microns DFT in a single application) and compatibility with many different topcoats means you only need one primer for all steelwork.

On price and performance, those who have already tried Highlander 240 have said only one thing: “it’s the best primer I’ve ever used.”

Highlander 310 is an exceptional enamel with outstanding features. It offers high gloss, excellent resistance to blooming and no time limit on recoating, and adds the best new technology has to offer into the vehicle of a traditional quick dry spraying enamel.

310 is ideal for fleet and equipment manufacturers, steel fabricators and anyone else that wants supreme gloss and durability in a quick dry enamel. Improvements to enhance flow, spraying and recoat have put 310 in a class on its own. It can be recoated at any time, thinned up to 30%, and it can be sprayed electrostatically. It is the ideal primer for not only structural steel in factories, commercial buildings, but also transport, machinery and equipment. 240 series are strong and a suitable primers for high performance two pack products like Evic 940 Ceramevic R™ exterior polyurethane or 020 Evapoxy™ epoxy topcoat. 240 Highlander™ Steel Protector may also be used as a finish for structural steel that does not require long-term exterior protection.

Highlander ™ Steel Protector 240-245 are available as low sheen only.

Extensive laboratory and field testing have consistently confirmed the premium, performance of Highlander ™ Steel Protector as an
exceptional anti-corrosive primer.

Weather: Good in general industrial environments. Should be top coated for long-term exterior exposure.
Heat: Performs in temperatures up to 100? (dry heat).
Solvent: Resists alcohol and mineral turpentine. Film is liable to attack from other strong solvents.
Acid/ Alkali: Not recommended where fumes, splash or spillage of acid. alkali may occur.
Salts: Withstands splash and spillage of neutral salts only.
Water: Resists rain and condensation. Not recommended for permanently damp or immersed exposure.
Abrasion: Moderate resistance to abrasion.

Toxicity: Lead free, Dry film is non-toxic and conforms to AS1647, Part 3
Volume Solids: 42% ± 2
Wet Film Thickness: 100-185 microns
Dry Film Thickness: 40-75 microns

SPRAY APPLICATION (A BRUSH MAY BE USED FOR SMALL AREAS)

Application by conventional spray gun or airless systems is recommended, however a brush may be used for small areas.
Conventional Spray Gun: with 1.7mm-2.0mm tip (or equivalent). Air pressure approximately 275-310kPa (40-45psi).
Airless Spray: Use heavy-duty airless spray with 11 to 15 thou plus tip.
Pressure Pot: Set pot pressure at 55kPa (8psi) and maintain gun air pressure at approximately 275kPa (40psi).

Time to Touch Dry: 5-15 minutes
Time to Handling: 1 hour
Time to Recoat: 16-24 hours

5-30%, Depending on application equipment and technique.
Spraygun: 20-30% with 220S solvent.
Brushing (small areas only): Up to 5% with Mineral Turpentine.

Stir thoroughly using a flat (never round) bladed stirrer before and during use.

PREPARE SUBSTRATE FOR PRIMER

STEEL” Abrasive blast clean to AS1627 Part A Class 2 as a minimum standard. If unable to abrasive blast clean, thoroughly degrease with 825S solvent and remove rust and mill scale by combination of power tool and wire brushing to AS1627.2 Class 1.

PRIME SUBSTRATE FOR APPROPRIATE TOPCOAT

For best results, apply one full coat of Highlander ™ Steel Protector to the substrate followed by 1-2 finishing coats of the appropriate topcoat i.e. Highlander™ 210/310 series enamel, Paintdirect 410 Polynamel, 940 Ceramevic R™ exterior polyurethane or 020 Evapoxy ™ epoxy topcoat.

Spray equipment should be thoroughly flushed clean before the coating cures with 220S, 620S or 825S solvent.

Engineering Controls: Provide the level of ventilation required to keep the concentration of atmospheric contaminant below the TLV. Conduct paint mixing and application operations in a spray booth or equivalent mechanically ventilated area. Keep containers closed when not in use.

Personal Protections: If exposure standards are being exceeded wear a respirator meeting AS1715/ AS1716. Avoid skin and eye contact. Use impermeable gloves and eye protection. If skin contact occurs wash at once with mild soap and warm water. Observe sensible personal hygiene standards. Always wash before smoking, eating, drinking, or visiting the toilet.

Flammability: This product is Highly Flammable Dangerous Goods Class 3, PG II, Hazchem 3[Y]E, with a flash point below 0? and myst be transported and handled accordingly. Keep away from all sources of ignition, flames sparks, hot surfaces etc. When pouring avoid free falls of more than a few inches.

Storage and Transport: Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keep away from oxidising substances. Keep containers closed when not in use. This product is Highly Flammable Dangerous Goods Class 3, PG II, Hazchem 3[Y]E, EPG 3C1, and should be stored and transported accordingly.

Spills and Disposal: Immediately extinguish all sources of ignition. Keep people away. Ventilate the area or wear self contained breathing apparatus. Clean up crew should wear eye and skin protection. Shut off source of spill. Contain and absorb with earth or sand. Shovel into marked, sealable container for disposal. High Strength Solvent 220S 0r 825S would be suitable for final clean up. Avoid contaminating water supplies, waterways, sewers or drains. Refer more than trivial quantities to the State Waste Authority and advise the nature of the product, Alternatively consult Evic about disposal arrangements.

Fire/ Explosion Hazard: Products of combustion will include carbon dioxide & carbon monoxide. Thick smoke and dangerous fumes amy be evolved. Fire-fighters should wear full protective clothing including self contained breathing apparatus. Fight fires with foam, CO?, dry powder or water spray, depending on the circumstances. Do not contaminate waters, water supplies, sewers or drains.
