Cairns Convention Centre recently underwent a $22 million restoration project.

In a recent exciting project, Cairns Convention Centre underwent a $22 million restoration process. Following consultation with the original architects, part of the upgrade to the Cairns Convention Centre, was to give the whole exterior a make-over and colour change to present an updated contemporary and stylish new appearance. This is in addition to a new arrival zone, upgrades of solar hot water panels, lifts, air-conditioning and car parking as well as partial roof replacement.

Thanks to the efforts of the 163 local and 50 other workers employed by 24 Cairns and 9 Queensland based companies, the project was completed in late 2016 – beautifully showcasing Evic’s 940 Ceramevic coating on the exterior of the building.

940 Ceramevic was specified by architects because of the high abrasion, impact and mar resistance, ensuring durability and long life. The product is easily cleaned with acid or alkaline agents without loss of gloss and is virtually non-yellowing inside and exterior durability shown by extensive testing.

The Centre sits on the shores of the Great Barrier Reef and surrounded by the oldest rainforest on earth, the Cairns Convention Centre is conveniently situated 10 minutes from the airport with 7,000 hotel rooms within walking distance.

The Cairns Convention Centre has won many awards since opening in 1996 for building design and operational performance. The major highlight for the Centre’s team was achieving the 2014 and 2004 AIPC APEX Award for “World’s Best Congress Centre” – which is a client rated survey and the highest international industry accolade.
